Whaling Season at Reefs

Whales, the mighty creatures are fascinating. They rule the sea and watching them at the tropical waters leaves an everlasting impression. Great Barrier Reef is one of the best places in the world to catch marvellous sightings of the mighty whales. Snorkelling, scuba-diving are those activities that are open round the year as the stinger free environment of reef waters is safe to explore at any time- but whale watching, it is different and privileged one, as from June to November are the only months of the year when you can enjoy the company of these mighty creatures. Humpback whales and minke whales are the commonly sighted species of whales along with other marine wildlife.

Sunset Safaris are known to offer you the best whale watching experience. With a whole day of Great Barrier Reef Package dedicated for cruising over the reef waters in the most luxurious vessel in the region, you have the perfect opportunity to witness the different stunts performed by tropical guests. A safe distance is maintained that allows a flawless encounter.

The minke dwarf whales are investigative in nature. They may come around the vessel to sniff your presence and may also stalk you till your next stoppage. They are the most abundant species in whales’ category.

33663507_1880688201950992_7948249070475149312_n (1)

The humpbacks are gentle giants of the oceans and migrate to tropical region to calve and breed. The warm water at Australian east coast offer them perfect sustainable environment. One can easily recognise whales by their giant pectoral fins and scalloped flukes. Another fascinating and attractive feature of largest Baleen whales (humpback whales) is to listen to their songs. The male counterparts often sing to attract females. The song comprises of moans, eerie wails and clicks with distinctive patterns. The pattern may repeat and the singing sometimes continues to extent up an hour or so.

With Sunset Safaris as your host on the Great Barrier Reef Tours, the experience becomes more enthralling and fun.

The Turtle Breeding Season

The whaling season is followed by turtle breeding season and Mon Repos Turtle Conservation Centre is the best place to encounter the live breeding of turtles. From November till March, turtle breeding season is marked on the calendar. The onset of “turtling season” witnesses thousands of sea-turtles crawling up the beaches to lay eggs in the sand. From February, few of the eggs starch hatching and the hatchlings make their way back to the sea for their journey onwards. This indeed is one of the most beautiful encounters of nature.

Sunset Safaris include The Mon Repos Live Turtle Encounter Trip in every Great Barrier Reef Tour. You have a free access to the centre and ample of time to enjoy. During the non-breeding seasons, an exhibition displaying the various phases of a turtle’s life is exhibited- a fun learning by Mon Repos Turtle Conservation Centre.

These are the very best and exclusive perks offered by Sunset Safaris and along with that you have a number of reef activities conducted by Sunset Safaris. These include
